Topic Sentence Generator: Build Stronger Sentences from Evidence

Use a practical topic-sentence formula, connect claims to evidence, and understand where source organization helps before drafting.

A topic sentence generator can produce a quick opening line, but a strong topic sentence depends on the paragraph’s claim, evidence, audience, and role in the larger argument. Generating the sentence before understanding the source often creates generic writing.

A useful topic sentence formula

A clear topic sentence usually contains:

  1. the paragraph’s specific subject;
  2. the claim or controlling idea;
  3. enough direction to show why the paragraph matters.

For example, “Urban tree cover reduces summer heat most effectively when planting plans prioritize neighborhoods with limited shade” is more useful than “Trees are important in cities.”

Build the sentence from evidence

Before drafting, identify:

  • the evidence the paragraph will use;
  • the conclusion that evidence supports;
  • how the paragraph connects to the previous and next section;
  • any limitation or qualification that should appear.

Then write two or three versions and choose the one that accurately sets up the paragraph.

Where Recap fits

Recap does not generate a finished topic sentence from an empty prompt. It turns your research source into a structured readable Recap Document. For complex material, the Understanding mode helps separate concepts, evidence, and explanation; PBL Learning can help you question the material more deeply.

Once the source is clear, export the document to your workspace and write the sentence in the context of your own argument.

Quick checklist

  • Is the sentence specific enough?
  • Can the paragraph actually support the claim?
  • Does it avoid announcing “This paragraph will…”?
  • Does it connect to the larger argument?
  • Does it preserve important qualifications?

Use AI to organize and inspect source material, but keep the final claim tied to the evidence and purpose of your writing.
